How to play
Every piece moves like a chess rook. Close an enemy piece between two of yours in a row or column to capture it; the empty centre throne also closes the trap. The defenders win when their king reaches any edge cell. The attackers win by trapping the king: between two attackers, or on four sides while he is on or beside the throne. Only the king may stop on the throne. Attackers move first.
Beside chess
The board game the Norse played before chess reached them: one side has a king to save, the other has numbers, and the two armies are not the same size or shape.
Moves are written as the cells they touch: d4, e2e4, c3e5g7.
