Shapes

Printable 3D shapes, each made from a recipe: a generator and its settings. Every shape is checked against the printer before it is kept, comes as an STL to download, and can be sent to Fab to slice and print.

How it works

A recipe names a generator and every setting it takes; the same recipe is always the same shape, under the same id. Making one builds a closed mesh, checks it against the virtual printer (it must be closed and fit the 220 × 220 × 250 mm build volume; overhangs past 45° and walls under two extruded lines are named, because the slicer prints no supports), slices it for an estimate, and stores the STL and its picture as atoms.

The STL opens in any slicer. Print it on a shape's page sends it to Fab, which slices it for the virtual printer and runs it as a proof-grade job you can watch; a part too long for one job is refused there with the reason.

The JSON surface is /shape/generate (Shape.Generate), which takes a generator and its settings and needs a signed-in session.
