Properties

KeyValue
bodyTake the film off the reel, clip one end to a line and hang a weighted clip on the other. The bathroom after a hot shower is the classic drying room: the steam has pulled the dust out of the air. Let the water sheet off on its own. Don't wipe it; a squeegee scratches more negatives than it saves. Leave it two to four hours, until the film is dry and has lost its curl. Cut it into strips of six frames and slide them into a sleeve page, shiny side up. Hold a strip to the window. You should see a full range from nearly clear to nearly black, and the frame numbers and maker's name along the edge should be crisp and dark. Those edge markings are exposed at the factory, so they tell you about your development alone. Faint edge markings mean the film was under-developed. Good edge markings with a thin, pale picture mean the camera under-exposed it.
